Even the name tells you it is a big MISC - what the heck does Finance have to do with Operations? They were originally separate - but mixing them together is a way to let Finance oversee all decisions. [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] The group needs to be broken up and moved far away from "Finance". [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] And IBM was not meant to be just a "mainframe" company - which I agree it is that it really left. Letting MBAs and Finance people micromanage every decision is why IBM is in the bad shape it is. They are buffoons who can fool some of the investors some of the time but after a while they are going to wonder what else is there? Not much! If it was innovative, it was cut. It is that simple. [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Finance and operations is way too big at IBM (39% of employees) [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Sales and marketing is also way too big (29% of employees) [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Honestly think about it. IBM is 80% a mainframe company so what are 40% of its employees doing in finance and operations. The same can be said for sales and marketing. IBM is way overmanned in these two organizations, and if management wants to restructure the company, I would start here. 30% and 20% respectively would be aggressive goals to aim for [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] 9 hours ago by Anonymous [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] | 4 reactions (+3/-1) | Reply [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Post ID: @cr+1kzfrptd2 [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] +7 [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] IBM became INCOMPETENT BY MCKINSEY when the G Man Gerstner came in 4-1-93 and after he was a BMOC big man on campus at McKinsey. He knew nothing about IBM or tech so people like that bring in consultants for "plausible deniability" where they can take all the credit (he saved IBM and make elephants dance!) if it works out and blame the consultants if it does not. Ever since then IBM likely has had a $50M or $100M annual contract wi [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] th McKinsey. IBM has been like Ron Burgundy for a very long time. [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] "I don't know how to put this, but I'm kind of a big deal." [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Big Blue stands tall in the digital night, [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Chasing the metrics and guiding the light, [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Yet deep in the boardroom where data is clean, [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] The M stands proudly for old McKinsey. [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] The new (young) people hired are not doing the job, not to mentioned they never last more than 2 years. [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Again, just another stupid action by the Execs to save their as--s and hope that the next few quarters are going to be OK. [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] My prediction is that Q3 is also going to be a disaster... this is based on what I have seen in the first month of Q3. July was a total disaster. The whole Sales organization is being re-organized again as we speak, it is total panic. Most sales guys are getting new customers. [05:14] schestowitz[TR2] Great job RT, you are really a genius! Raleigh [05:15] schestowitz[TR2] Was it a complete surprise, or were there warning signs? Total surprise. [05:15] schestowitz[TR2] Were you placed on a PIP beforehand, or was it unexpected? No PIP, I was a top performer, not that it mattered. [05:15] schestowitz[TR2] Were you notified by email, or in a 1:1 meeting? 1:1 meeting [05:15] schestowitz[TR2] Am currently in a new role with promotion and more $$$ so I don't mind, it was one of the best things that happened to me from a career perspective. Once you leave IBM you finally see what a joke it is.
