IBM has abandoned the not invented here mantra, and SW division is being shrunk by at least 50% as IBM shops outside for Hybrid solutions. Just look at the last 7 major purchases by IBM. All are outside firms that IBM has bought at a premium, and all are replacing legacy products and personnel. The same is/will happen to CIO. IBM [03:39] schestowitz[TR2] cant afford to wait on CIO to make IBM efficient. They will buy good enough products from existing vendors, and outsource the implementation of these products in the name of efficiency. You may not like that answer, but IBM is all about driving down costs, and buying vs innovating has become the go to play. Every division has adopted a form of drive costs out of IBM (Consulting = automate repetitive processes via AI, SW = [03:39] schestowitz[TR2] buy vs innovate, infrastructure = partner vs manufacture internally) CIO will be no exception and will adopt what works well for each division into their play book. Driving costs down is job 1 at Armonk right now [03:39] schestowitz[TR2] " [03:42] schestowitz[TR2] https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1upIiR7j [03:42] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes- ( status 403 @ https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1upIiR7j ) [03:42] schestowitz[TR2] " [03:42] schestowitz[TR2] I think IBM is not giving Austin accurate headcounts, or IBM is planning for only 1/3-1/2 of the employee population to show up on any given day [03:42] schestowitz[TR2] August 2024 Chamber of Commerce statement [03:42] schestowitz[TR2] While the company does not break out local workforce figures, recent estimates from the Austin Chamber of Commerce put IBM's Austin workforce around 6,000 local employees. Is the reduction from their current legacy space, or their future proposed space? Reason I ask is the articles you referenced say IBM just swapped 320k of space from one location (Hines property (IBM was going to take 320k of space from 500k available)) to 320k of space in domain 12 [03:42] schestowitz[TR2] Either way it certainly looks like IBM has substantially reduced their footprint vs the past 10 year [03:42] schestowitz[TR2] " ● Sep 09 [04:08] schestowitz[TR2] " > Hi Roy, [04:08] schestowitz[TR2] > How are you?
