[09:33] schestowitz[09:33] schestowitzThe phone's shell and my beloved URxvt terminal emulator have difficulties communicating. I installed xterm on my computer and am using this to connect to the phone. Works perfectly.
[09:33] schestowitzOf course one can always use the terminal app directly on the phone. It gives full access to the system via devel-su, just as via SSH.

[09:34] -TechBytesBot/#techbytes-www.dedoimedo.com | Docker Desktop - Friendly frontend for container management [09:34] schestowitz[09:34] schestowitzI like intuitive software solutions. Y'know, products that are so easy to use you don't really need a manual, and if you do have to consult the documentation, then you will definitely find the answers you're looking for. In my experience, Docker stuff definitely qualifies in this domain.
[09:34] schestowitzRecently, I came across a new Docker thing - Docker Desktop. This is meant to be the GUI for Docker container management, intended as a cushty frontend for things you would normally do on the command line with the Docker engine. Well, sounds quite interesting, so let's see what gives.

[09:42] schestowitz[09:42] schestowitzShocked? Dont be. We learned of this devices existence last month when System76 CEO Carl Richell dropped mention of it on his Twitter, proper casual like. Reaction from Pop fans was understandably effusive, with folks wanting to learn the salient what, whys, hows and wheres.

[09:43] schestowitz[09:43] schestowitzThe HP Dev One is a notebook designed for professional developers. The 3.24 pound notebook has a 14 inch full HD display, a backlit spill-resistant keyboard with a pointing stick in the center as well as a glass-covered clickpad below it, and an AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U processor.
[09:43] schestowitzBut the main thing that marks this as a developer-centric laptop (other than the name)? It ships with a Linux distribution called Pop!_OS rather than Windows. First announced in may, the HP Dev One is now available for $1099.

[09:44] schestowitz[09:44] schestowitzHP has started accepting pre-orders for the HP Dev One, a new laptop primarily aimed at development work. It appears to be a slightly-customized version of the HP EliteBook 845 G8, with an 8-core/16-thread AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U processor, a 14-inch LED screen (without touch), a glass touchpad, a 1TB NVMe SSD for storage, 16GB RAM, and a 720p camera. That amount of RAM might be too little for some [09:44] schestowitz development work, but System76 confirmed that the SSD, Wi-Fi card, and RAM can be easily replaced or upgraded.

It is interesting to note that many of these emails have a line like this at the bottom:

[10:06] schestowitz[10:06] schestowitzHere is a screenshot from the Debian people tracker. Norbert Tretkowski resigned when negative publicity appeared about Dr Norbert Preining. Joachim Breitner resigned in the same week that Jonathan Carter sent a big bundle of libel to WIPO. A new blog appeared last week about Chris Lamb's proximity to the Albanian problems. Only a few days after that blog and we see fifteen more people resigned on Monday, 7 [10:06] schestowitz June.
[10:06] schestowitzThese appear to be independent developers, unconnected with Ubuntu and Google in particular.
