schestowitzIt does, on the map, show 5 houses from where I am....Oct 18 01:25
schestowitzNo bluetooth or xG or anything. Just Wi-Fi on a wired home hub. It should typically point to some other (distant) place in the same city, so I wonder where the location is obtained from and whether the browser too can fetch that info.Oct 18 01:25
schestowitzIf Google Maps is run from a home on a MOBILE network it should have an accuracy down to a few meters, but this is just a laptop.Oct 18 01:25

schestowitz> I'm intrigued. If you learn more or figure it out, I want to know.Oct 18 06:57
schestowitzIt is not impossible that when phones connected to our open wifi, they then associated its physical address with a hardware address? Either way, GNOME Maps somehow 'knew' where the IP was... getting it only 20-30 meters wrong. I don't think FREE software applications should be able to obtain that much info. Nowadays with "telemetry" and all they would be able to accurately maps their users worldwide.Oct 18 06:57
