[12:27] schestowitz[TR2] " Plan where you would like to get to for your next job, and then work out a strategy to help get you there. Networking with others cannot be underestimated. And being flexible. Having 2 or more versions of your resume to send out is helpful particularly if you are multi-talented and can fit in different job roles. And being relentless like a hungry shark will eventually pay off. "

Powered by SAM2s object segmentation, it lets users isolate and remove backgrounds by applying object masks directly to video clips.

[17:53] schestowitz[TR2] " Say CachyOS and Garuda Linux do have their own advantages different from EndeavourOS. See for instance https://www.phoronix.com/news/CachyOS-2024-Highlights
[17:53] schestowitz[TR2] I've tried most if not all of the Arch made easy distros and they're mostly not great. EOS is the best of the lot for me. Not much divergence from pure Arch, little bloat, and the only things from their repo are useful apps and artwork (too purple, but whatever). If I need to quickly expunge Windows from a new computer, EOS is first in line.
[17:53] schestowitz[TR2] I'm old enough to remember when Archbang was about it in terms of easier Arch. Now there are several, few of real value, to me at least. Manjaro, with its held updates sprung on users once or twice a month, is probably the worst.
[17:53] schestowitz[TR2] CachyOs is decent, though it is the only Arch descendant that's ever locked up hard on my gear (core i5, Intel graphics, other components chosen specifically for Linux compatibility). Garuda is a gaudy mess to my eyes, seemingly aimed at gamers and tweens. I for one will be happy when this whole dark theming frenzy dies.
[17:53] schestowitz[TR2] I've recently tested CachyOS 241221 on several workstations with top lined Ryzen CPUs, NVME SSDs and at least 16 GB of RAM. The distribution includes the BORE task scheduler by default, optimized to reduce desktop latency and increase the priority of interactive processes. The kernel and packages are built with LTO (Link-Time Optimization) optimizations enabled and instructions available in processors based on the x86-64-v3, x86-64
[17:53] schestowitz[TR2] -v4 and Zen4 microarchitectures used. When building base packages, PGO (Profile-Guided Optimization) or BOLT (Binary Optimization and Layout Tool) optimizations are additionally enabled.
[17:53] schestowitz[TR2] BORE (Burst-Oriented Response Enhancer) is enhanced versions of CFS (Completely Fair Scheduler) and EEVDF (Earliest Eligible Virtual Deadline First) Linux schedulers. Developed with the aim of maintaining these schedulers' high performance while delivering resilient responsiveness to user input under as versatile load scenario as possible.

[20:15] schestowitz[TR2] "2025 will be a bumpy ride
[20:15] schestowitz[TR2] All the jobs data is being revised down. 818,000 jobs lost last revision by the Philly FED, and they are expecting 1.25 million by the end of the year. They were padding the numbers for re-election purposes. Look for GDP of 3% to be revised down in Feb 2025. The stock market and big business will be spooked. The capital markets made bad decisions on this data. The Fed made bad decisions on this data, and corporations made bad decis
[20:15] schestowitz[TR2] ions on this data. The price tag is coming due in 2025. Not only that, but we have a slowing economy across the globe. I continue to see layoffs in IBM's future in 2025 & 2026, perhaps even accelerated by the bad numbers. Lets be honest, IBM is not really growing their business; just raising their prices."

[20:17] schestowitz[TR2] Trump might be able to stop H1V folks coming in to some degree, but he can't stop companies from getting rid of people and moving their jobs elsewhere. H1V is all ready limited to 165,000 slots a year 9pretty much a fa-t in the wind). All the multinational USA companies do this. Payroll and HR, moved to Latin America. IT, moved to India, Engineering moved to Eastern Europe. They all do this (big American companies in oil and gas, t
[20:17] schestowitz[TR2] elcom, medical, industrial, etc.) to save money. And Trump is about to inherit an economy far worse then stated as all those jobs numbers keep getting revised down and were cooked. You might want to retire, but do it quickly because Party City just folded last week and is closing all 850 stores

[20:20] schestowitz[TR2] The executives not just of IBM, but many other public companies, obtain wealth through the stock options granted them as part of their compensation.
[20:20] schestowitz[TR2] While this is supposed to align their interests with those of the company, it also distorts management decisions and rewards short -term thinking.
[20:20] schestowitz[TR2] This is partly responsible for the rot that set in with American business beginning in the 1970s, with economist Milton Freidmans declaration that the sole purpose of a company is to increase shareholder value.
[20:20] schestowitz[TR2] The executives thinking now is to get personally rich as quickly as possible, and not to create lasting value. It the I got mine, sc--w you mentality.
[20:20] schestowitz[TR2] No one knows what tomorrow will bring, after all.
