[11:58] DaemonFC Then what actually happened was bigger direct subsidy payments were triggered at the individual policy level, and many low income households got cheaper or even $0 premiums. [11:59] DaemonFC If your insurance goes from a couple hundred bucks a month to like $50, do you drop it? I mean, that's literally how ridiculous this guy was. He had no head for policy. He'd just do it and then we'd all figure out the consequences later, and sometimes it achieved the opposite of what he had planned. ● Sep 22 [12:02] DaemonFC It was essentially government by absurdism and pushing random buttons, it felt like. I mean vaccines with everything open vs. no vaccine and you can't do much last year. [12:05] schestowitz-TR someone needs to ask the uncomfortable questions [12:05] DaemonFC But essentially, I don't understand how things can be this much worse if the vaccines work very well. [12:05] schestowitz-TR the media here is just he says, she says... not dealing much with actual data [12:05] DaemonFC It would be interesting to see figures with a vaccine and lockdown in effect. [12:06] DaemonFC If it was slower spreading with fewer deaths, we'd know that maybe they were working okay. [12:06] DaemonFC But the big corporations and banks won't have it, and governments were going into severe debt pumping money into their economies that distorted markets and caused inflation. [12:06] DaemonFC They're tired of it. [12:07] DaemonFC This was actually the first "induced" recession in the United States in about 40 years. [12:07] DaemonFC They did it in the early 1980s, caused one on purpose, to put out hyperinflation. And things got very bad for about a year, but not this bad. [12:08] DaemonFC In the 1980s, it was hyperinflation caused by low interest rates and spending on war, entitlements, and the space program. [12:09] schestowitz-TR not Saudi oil crisis? [12:09] schestowitz-TR (among other things) [12:09] DaemonFC I mean, that was certainly part of it, but got more blame than it was actually worth. [12:09] DaemonFC I mean you can't have decades of war without a huge negative effect on the domestic economy. [12:10] DaemonFC Some Arabs and their oil chicanery did kind of mess things up a bit, but people responded by driving less and a few years in, started demanding more fuel efficiency. [12:11] DaemonFC It was the end of the "full sized car" and the beginning of the end of the V8 engine in a car. [12:11] DaemonFC The V8s got smaller and more fuel efficient even, but then started gradually disappearing. [12:26] DaemonFC And that's a plus and a minus. [12:27] DaemonFC On the upside, it's very reliable and difficult to crash. On the downside, there's always something that feels unfinished, like maybe your video game controller doesn't work like you'd want it to. [12:27] DaemonFC schestowitz-TR, I spent quite a while fixing up a copy of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to work in Wine on my other laptop. [12:28] DaemonFC It turns out that the generic game controller code from 2006, which was not even aware of the xbox 360 controller, works fine with either that or the switch controller. [12:28] DaemonFC But you have to kind of play around with a .ini file until you figure out the mappings. [12:29] DaemonFC Things like this just go title by title and sometimes it ends up working, but nothing you do carries over to any other game. [12:29] DaemonFC Sometimes there's working controller support in the game, but they never update it for new controllers. Sometimes the controller support is in Steam, and it takes care of things without the game engine knowing about it or caring. [12:30] DaemonFC https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2021/09/19/what-if-i-told-you-cyberpunk-2077-is-better-than-gta-5/ [12:30] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-www.forbes.com | What If I Told You Cyberpunk 2077 Is Better Than GTA 5? [12:30] DaemonFC It could have been. [12:30] DaemonFC Projeckt Red released it too soon and even after a lot of major patching, it still feels like so much less than it could've been. [12:31] DaemonFC And of course, they did very little work on optimizations, because everyone should just brute force it with a more expensive PC. [12:31] DaemonFC It's sad. [12:31] DaemonFC GTA V, even 8 years later, feels like a complete game at least. [12:31] DaemonFC It plays better. The graphics haven't aged _that_ badly. [12:32] DaemonFC They did a lot of optimizations to the game code, even to the point of making it work acceptably on the XBOX 360. [12:33] DaemonFC I'd say that the 360 version was the most deficient, but they didn't have to cut too much out of it. [12:33] DaemonFC No first person mode inside a car, smaller soundtrack, the graphics have jaggies sometimes but not in a way that is a huge distraction. [12:34] DaemonFC But these companies with the DRM are ruining the PC as a gaming platform. Rockstar decided that they'd put numerous requirements in there that basically ruin the game if you don't go online to ping one of their servers, which checks your license. [12:35] DaemonFC Then some of the single player missions become pointless and you can't get enough cash to finance the final missions. So it's not really possible to complete the game, as intended, offline. [12:36] DaemonFC The whole point of the "assassination missions" are to kill people and play the in game stock market (which pings a real web server) and if you don't have it connected for it to verify your copy of the game, you can't really do much in-game because you're supposed to have made a bunch of money and can't. [12:36] *m___ has quit (Quit: Leaving.) Forbes Advisor UK [13:42] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-en.wikipedia.org | Fungibility - Wikipedia [13:42] kingoffrance for ppl so concerned with what is "money" or not it looks like its been 1984ed [13:42] kingoffrance what i heard its more "divisibility" [13:43] gustaf NFTs are just an attempt to shoehorn "collectibility" into crapto [13:45] kingoffrance quote wiki: Notably, money is fungible: one US $10 banknote is interchangeable with any other genuine banknote like it.[4] It is also interchangeable with two fives, ten ones, or any other combination of banknotes and coins adding up to $10. ; this is 1/2 truth, because if you cut a dollar bill in half, its not worth 50 cents, its worth 0 and you debased it [13:45] kingoffrance hence why i heard it was "divisibility" [13:46] kingoffrance and why people who like precious metal, might not consider paper to be "fungible" unless e.g. there is some way to divide it like that [13:47] kingoffrance hence the "exchange a $10 note for 2 $5 bills" [13:48] gustaf crypto in general is divisible [13:48] gustaf stack those sats! [13:48] gustaf but a NFT by definition is not [13:50] kingoffrance quote Fungibility has been used to describe certain types of tasks that can be broken down into interchangeable pieces that are easily parallelized and are not interdependent on the other pieces. [13:50] kingoffrance that is actually good, because a process can be parallelizable or not [13:50] kingoffrance i mean, broadly can be applied to computing too [13:52] kingoffrance quote forbes "one Bitcoin is always equal to another Bitcoin" thats not wrong, its just can you e.g. divide smaller, into bitcoin dust? strictly, sometimes "fungibility" people want that [13:52] kingoffrance i dont know anything, but have to be specific to avoid sleight of hand [13:55] gustaf every btc transaction is immutably recorded onto a public ledger, so there's definite risk involved in touching coins that have been known to have been "stolen" (actually - accessed without the previous holder of the private keys' permission) [13:55] gustaf coins can be "blacklisted" too [13:56] kingoffrance im sure theres some proper term for "smallest unit" ? [13:57] kingoffrance i mean, thats the "fungibility level" how small can it go [13:57] kingoffrance and perhaps an upper limit too [13:57] gustaf yeah a satoshi [13:57] kingoffrance :D [13:58] kingoffrance i mean in general, some generic moneyology term [13:58] kingoffrance granularity i suppose is computing term [13:59] kingoffrance that would work :) ● Sep 22 [14:00] MinceR > divide smaller, into bitcoin dust? [14:00] MinceR and then snort it [14:01] kingoffrance cartel, bro :D [14:01] kingoffrance that was sarcasm if anyone reads the logs lol [14:03] gustaf fungibility means that if I have dollar bill, it's the same as any other dollar bill, even if it's been involved in a bank robbery [14:04] gustaf a dollar bill stained from a dye pack is *not* fungible, though [14:04] gustaf the point of a NFT is that there is only one entry for it (on that particular blockchain) [14:12] *sepsinn (~sepsinn@c9nu4ummhfn7e.irc) has joined #techrights [14:16] *koo6 has quit (Remote host closed the connection) [14:16] techrights-news #Games: RPCS3, Fake Gamiing, and More http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/155935 #GNU #Linux #TuxMachines [14:16] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-www.tuxmachines.org | Games: RPCS3, Fake Gamiing, and More | Tux Machines [14:18] techrights-news #ibm #rehat shilling #microsoft https://fedoramagazine.org/install-powershell-on-fedora-linux/ #fedora is a mess. http://techrights.org/2021/08/20/we-build-fedora-and-then-ibm-blacklists-us/ [14:18] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-fedoramagazine.org | Install PowerShell on Fedora Linux - Fedora Magazine [14:18] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-techrights.org | Imperialistic Blacklist Machines: Racist IBM and Red Hat Just Like Donald Trump Have Turned Fedora Into an Utterly Racist Project That Blacklists, Shuns and Permanently Bans People Based on Their Nationality Alone | Techrights [14:22] techrights-news Nobody wants to work for #ibm anymore, so IBM relies on #astroturfing https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1cWAqaw3#replies [14:22] -TechrightsBot-tr/#techrights-www.thelayoff.com | How to Land a Job at IBM - post regarding IBM layoffs [14:23] techrights-news " #IBM decapitalized the company through share buybacks and dividends; and bought Red Hat.
