Let's Hope 2024 Will be Better
MY message is not optimistic. Should I add a trigger warning?
It's a year that's blank. It's a new year. Unknowns to come. How was last year? Tough for most people, but for us it was a year of accomplishments. I've just completed all my end-of-year tasks (there's a long TODO list for that) and considering the traffic levels we've been seeing we're looking at over a billion requests every 3 years or so. In the coming days we'll accelerate pace of coverage some more, mostly because more will happen and thus we have more to react/respond to.
A new year does not always mean a better year, even though many folks promise improvements to themselves (new year's resolutions) and based on a shallow assessment of news headlines, the media owners already prepare people for another tough year. Predictions of an economic boon or even a recovery seem rare. It's hard to find any.
Looking outside the mainstream media and focusing instead on blogs and Gemlogs, many people say they had a very tough year last year. This seems like the "new normal".
It may seem like a "lame" way to start a year (negative message), but setting the expectations correctly helps avoid disappointments.
My wife and I left our job at the end of 2022 - just before some of the worst chaos began and after our employer had turned increasingly rogue. To me, personally, 2023 was a year of freedom.
