Our Plans for Spring
TODAY is informally a holiday here (many go out to pubs and take days off work next week). It's also a sign that the clock is changing very soon and springtime will arrive "officially".
This month we learned about more Microsoft layoffs, more Microsoft cuts (informal hearsay attributed to anonymous sources), and we're seeing GNU/Linux interest on the rise. Over the past 10 days or so we saw 1.5 to 2 million requests per day, which is a lot more than usual (and at this volume level it's not some statistical noise/error).
Next month we'll continue to repost many articles from Daniel Pocock and we'll simultaneously cover Free software issues. Expect a little less patent coverage, at least for now.
Happy days ahead?
Well, this coming week marks 6 months since we dumped WordPress and finally (belatedly) moved to our own system, which we control and develop to suit our needs as a site. Development of this system started in the summer of 2022.
In Gemini we're still attracting positive attention (8480 requests yesterday) and we receive E-mail from readers of the site, which helps assure us there is positive impact. As usual, we don't intend to write about the efforts to deplatform us except once a week, typically on Monday, i.e. less than 1% of the total posts we make here. We wish to move on, but not without explaining what was attempted to silence us.
Later this year we turn 18 and a few months from now our IRC community turns 16. With Freenode NDAs about to expire, we shall have interesting stories to tell, based on insiders.
We wish to extend our gratitude to readers who support us financially. This contributes towards our output. █
