"Conviction for a Crime he Did Not Commit," Said Jennifer Robinson
New footage:
Jennifer Robinson (or "Jen") is a prominent and widely regarded lawyer. She was a rising star from Australia. I spoke to her a long time ago and I respect her greatly. She did admirable work for Julian Assange and for others, sometimes pro bono.
Robinson is the kind of woman accomplisher we should look up to.
Over a decade ago Robinson spoke about Benny Wenda and opposed conviction for crimes one did not even commit (not the same as "plea bargain" but related to that).
Today I want to share her talk from TEDxSydney because it is relevant to the Assange case.
"Courage is Contagious" was the title of the talk. Remember that without courage there can be no journalism. Important topics are covered only when in spite of repressions and chilling suppression there is still a rejection of self-censorship. Suppressed topics/articles never get published without resistance, either before or after publication.
Southeast Asian politics are the focal point of the talk, but the same principles apply universally. █
