Some GNU/Linux News Sites Are Still Doing OK (But Many Perish)
LXer is offline again (many such problems this past month) and Linux Today has been inactive since Friday (i.e. a day after the holiday). CNX is once again shilling Windows products in exchange for "gifts" and last week Phoronix published 2 Microsoft pieces in less than a day (WSL and Azure). Recently Linux Questions came under a massive DDoS attack, resulting in Clownflarism that denied access by many regulars and an associate tells us that MagPi 141 is "still pushing Microsoft VisualStudio in place of real tools, p 82" (Raspberry Pi has long been pushing this proprietary spyware).
So the state of "Linux news" isn't particularly great and isn't getting better. About once a week I check about a dozen sites that may or may not contain Linux-related news but lack an RSS feed. Lately, as in recent months, there hasn't been much in these.
GamingOnLinux has just turned 15 and it is still very active (about 8 new articles each weekday), so we're not losing hope. There are some other sites like that, but not many... and fewer over time.
Today, or overnight, we shall take stock of which sites are still active, which ones seem to have gone defunct ("TREND OCEANS", for instance, has just published its first article in more than 2 months), and which new ones can be added. █
