There's no place like home - revisited
We're staying with my wife's cousin and her husband. Fine place. Fun people.
But as my wife continues to sleep, I'm consigned to an uncomfortable chair in the bedroom, because I'd rather not become the listening device to the other two, who chatter rather endlessly. I can handle that sometimes, but definitely not first thing in the morning. Gotta get bearings. Finish thoughts. Re-member possible reality modelings.
My wife and I performed with a couple other music buddies in the "rec house" of their condo development yesterday afternoon into the evening. But given it's a solid three hour drive been home and here, it's been a rather grueling time. I pretty sore, and should have drank more water to counter negative alcohol effects.

Adventures in tokens
During my rounds of my locally hosted software, I noticed a gemini site being offline. The cause was of course my own fault, during a cleanup of app tokens, I was a bit eager and forgot to check where the tokens were used. I need to make a system of naming my tokens in a way that prevents me from just deleting tokens in use.

VVO: Not Quite Dead Yet After All
In my last update, I was rather discouraged about VVO, even suggesting I was putting it on hiatus to work on other things for a while. Although I did indeed work on a writeup for my sci-fi setting (currently debating how much of that I'll post to my capsule), out of a sense of -- I'm not sure, stubbornness? masochism? -- I also continued plugging away at trying to fix the issues with the VVO client.

Old Computer Challenge - Just some thoughts
So, I'm not taking part in this year's Old Computer Challenge[0], but I ended up seeing Matto's phlog post about their first day[1], and I felt like talking about it. Honestly, the only reason I'm not taking part is because I've got enough on my plate at the moment that I wouldn't be able to enjoy it, and that's the point of these "challenges": to have some fun.

Unfederated Email, Part II
A few years ago, I wrote a phlog entry about self-hosting an unfederated email server (which only sends emails among the users on the local machine). I set up the server on my home network and used it to send notes and files to my old devices. Since it was on my LAN, the server sent and received mails in clear text, without certificates and without encryption.
I mentioned in that post that my ultimate aim was to add encryption, so that I could access the server with my email client over the open internet. Several months later, a reader let me know that they'd like the setup details when I did it. Well, I finally set it up, and the details are below.
It's the simplest possible system. Each system user automatically has an email account on the server, using their regular username and password. It also requires the use of TLS on all connections. If you want to add new email users, just create a system user account for them. If you don't want them actually using the system, permit server logins with an RSA certificate only.
