China and India: High-Impact Nations in the Future of Computing
IN CHINA, the world's second-largest economy, Microsoft's Windows fell to its lowest share in 2 years and "Unknown" (maybe some Chinese operating systems) nearly doubled on desktops and laptops. It was just under 2 years ago that US-China relations deteriorated very quickly and China more visibly aligned itself with the Kremlin. statCounter estimates that Windows is installed on about 3 out of 4 Web-connected clients (desktops and laptops) in China, which means about 25% is something else. In India that something else (34%) is mostly GNU/Linux. Perhaps because India, unlike China, does not make many of its own devices (hardware) with a native operating system produced in India.
India and China combined would be around 3 billion people, or almost 10 times the population size of the United States. This means that what happens in Asia will play a very big role in the future of technology. █
In India, GNU/Linux rose to 16.2% today.
