Now It's "Official": Over 4,000 Known Gemini Capsules in Lupa
For the first time ever (only hours ago):
THERE are now over 4,000 known Gemini capsules in Lupa. Even the known and currently-active ones are approaching 3,000. A year ago it was a lot less.
According to historical data (thanks, Botond), there were only about 2,000 just 2 summers ago and we've moreover moved away - collectively - from centralised crackpottery like the Linux Foundation's CA. More than 90% or roughly 90% of all capsules sign their own certificate. Don't pay attention to the clowns. They're not interested in security but in control over you.
The grand total of 58 capsules hooked on Let's Encrypt seems like the lowest number since Gemini Protocol was very new. Gemini as a specification does not mandate centralised crackpottery (also, Let's Encrypt is not really free) and it implicitly encourages self-signing. It's not only better for privacy but also for free speech. █
