Terms of Service (TOS) Under Scrutiny - Part XVI - When Radio is No Longer "Read-Only" (Listening Mode) Because Someone Listens and Sells Your Data
I am still a user of radio. My alarm clock uses radio (AM or FM) and it has worked reliably since the 1990s. I see no reason to replace it. My stereo also has "Tuner" and it is turning 30 very soon. Radio is "old" technology, but it's still working reliably, unless some company tries to make it "smart" [1, 2].
On the TOS (or ToS) side of things, consider what Sonos did last year and this update from this year: ("via Louis Rossmann's latest rant about loss of privacy," as an associate put it)
ToS changes of the same 'breed': "Roku Continues To Screw With Customers Via Firmware/Software Updates"
Who would want to put up with this?
We asked our ToS assessor to have a look.
"Didn’t think about that! Yes," she said, "and Samsung TV too..."
Why is it that we're expected to believe newer means better? Or rather, who is it better for? █
