    Octave doubling, rhythmic tweaks, counterpoint, phrase fiddling, and the introduction of a new theme, and probably too much time spent fussing around with the phrase. On the other hand, playing around with a theme can be a good thing to practice.

  • i am stuck in the eight of wands

    the image shows seven cards from the tarot of the cat people. in order from left to right: eight of wands, the empress, the wheel of fortune, the queen of cups, justice, five of pentacles, strength stats: majority of triumphs, things feel heavy and important. out of the minors i'm only missing swords - not much room or energy for thinking over the important things, just waiting/riding it out. the queen is the only court and borrowing a cartomancy meaning i'm ascribing her to my mom - definitely an "asset" in this situation and i'm glad she's taking care of the real things so that i can only do the minimum that's only dependent on me and can't be delegated.

  • Frozen Tofu

    Somehow a block of tofu got frozen; perhaps it was placed too near the cold air input vent, and maybe the fridge is set too cold, and maybe someone has been leaving the door open for too long, or more likely I have offended the kami of this or all refrigerators, somehow. This required nuking the tofu, after prying the slab from the plastic, which resulted in a not bad texture (for the tofu, not the plastic), almost like a soft pumice, perhaps good for air frying, not that I have one of those air frying gizmos. More research is required as a control block of tofu (unfrozen) was lacking to compare with.

    time to grow up, anon. if you are already a grown up, you can try twice. noone is trying to steal your absence that is the ultimate presence of an aura, here and there, buried under six feet of clunky algos by teams that raise yet cannot solve problems because people are really bad at optimizing processes except few who help the civilization not go nuts. we wouldn't want the Earth have some kidney stone problems, do we?

  • Stargazing: Gemini (publ. 2024-10-02)

    Was able to make it out for about 20 minutes this morning. There was a thick haze covering most of the sky, which I first thought might be clouds. But I soon realized it was auroral glow, as some of it began to come together into bright green filaments. It is a blessing, of course, to be able to see so much aurora in Alaska, but it can make it more difficult to see the stars.

    I completed this sketch of Gemini and some nearby stars. Comparing with Stellarium, I think that my lower limit was somewhere around 4.3 magnitude.

    20 ft Ethernet arrives tomorrow. As well as display. Allowing modem to go back behind the chair, the laptop/shelves back near the desk, and then external display/KB/mouse used there out

  • On the SGI again (for a moment)

    I'm writing this post on my SGI O2. Why? Because it's more distraction-free environment (no https so almost no "Internet" at all). It makes some things harder, however. Wikipedia searches are limited to the gopher interface and so on.

    I'm of course cheating by using the FrogFind [1].

    In other hand, I used the SGI machine with the IRIX 6.5 for may years as my main (home) workstation and I'm muscle memory still works.

  • FreeBSD jails, ZFS, and Stow for building software

    I wanted to build the latest GnuPG release.

    To build gnupg-2.5.1., first a number of dependencies must be build.

    I added a new ky768_cv25519 subkey to my GnuPG key.

    This type of keys is only supported by the latest GnuPG versions.
