Free Software is Not a Religion (Maybe Just a Satire of One)
Free Software was never like a religion; it was started by atheists and it's still led by them
Free software (or Free Software capitalised) is still highly influential and still spreading like wildfire (it became the norm or the 'industry standard' in many different and important domains). As we pointed out many times in past years, using satirical performances by RMS some detractors attempted to call it (or stigmatise it as) a "religion"; in reality, many leaders of the movement are atheists and even actively against religion (all religions). RMS collectively calls them "brain virus".
Having failed to convince people that Free software is a "cult", the smear-loving muck-raking dishonest actors resort to a fallback strategy of painting everything with the "sex" brush. The reason this strategy is doomed to fail and even backfire (harm the perpetrators of the smear) is that it's based on fabrications and even outright libel.
Free software was never a religion or a sex cult or whatever. It's some technical "geeky" thing, focused on coding and wanting to share code for the collective benefit of society. Those concepts aren't even remotely connected to sex, they might be connected to the teachings of Jesus (sharing; some other religions advocate the same principles).
The bottom line is, it should be safe to disregard these patently false narratives and framings.
Those fascinated with sex cults in the software context should dive into Bill Gates' close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein (also LinkedIn's founder's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein) because there is actual substance to be found there. Why the sudden change of focus? █
