At the End, Facts Typically Win, Liars Walk Away
Do good, don't be naughty and don't do tricks
TOMORROW in the afternoon (GMT/CET) - yes, Halloween! - Richard Stallman gives his last Peru talk (in this round, hopefully not his last visit to Peru). It will be in Universidad Nacional de San Marcos. Those who tried to "cancel" him have meanwhile vanished entirely, one due to very severe health issues and another due to getting caught in a scandal. I don't want to use the word "karma", but as it turns out, people who do bad things end up in a difficult place. Remember that in 2021 the anti-Stallman petition was led by a person from IBM, where she worked on Azure (Microsoft) stuff.
Speaking of IBM, as a company the issues are evident. The shares of the company fell from about $234 to $204 in less than a week and the latest report reveals that debt has grown.
There's also this new thread where someone wonders aloud about the scale of the layoffs, which are done in secret. "By the numbers... Does anyone in this chat have actual RA and/or layoff numbers for IBM? Its kinda hard to understand the degree things are fair or bad without actual data," says the original message. There are replies like "seen a number of 8000 or so but believe it's much higher ...probably at least 15000 and climbing up. [...] I'm fairly sure that even VP level don't have the whole picture."
Another new thread says: "Did anyone watch the cringe fest that was the last 6 mins of the F&O all hands call? Is this what we've come to?"
Probably a lot worse than feet and toes stuff, except they do it with suits and ties on. As we said 3.5 years ago, "IBM and RMS Are Not Compatible" because their objectives are very different.
Meanwhile, here's a very recent Stallman talk (Invidious link). It is in Spanish. █
