    Probably mentioned this before (but I'm too lazy to try to figure out if I did, because I've changed whether/how/where I might have ground out an article several times in the last few weeks, and the thought of digging through it all generates a sense of panic over blowing a bunch of time only to wind up uncertain whether I was exhaustive anyway), but this article really nails so much for me:

    Really bizarre dream last night, in which I was put in charge of a contraption that made some miracle liquid product out of tomatoes. There was a sense of the contraption's details being so secret that I had to pretend I wasn't up to what I was up to. It was even in a space nobody was supposed to no about. But a couple others managed to stumble upon me at work, and I had to make up lies to explain what I was doing.

  • Ideas for my December Adventure?

    last year, I started a little challenge, where I focus some time every day on the issue tracker of a well known Linux distribution. I called it the "December Adventure" and it was great fun.

    Ok, lets try something different this year: I will spend 30min/day on improving Alpine Linux by working on issues from the issue tracker. This can be commenting, tracing package related problems upstream, fixing documentation issues, creating small code patches, or just helping to reconstruct issues and finding the root cause.

    A friend once told me that magicians and mystics who spend too much time opening the mind's eye end up having a great deal of suspicion, paranoia, and meanness to them, while those who focus on the heart become more caring and compassionate people.

    It's always an interesting exercise to shift the perspective from which you view and experience reality.

    For example, this moment, right now, from a very normal perspective (and indeed probably the best one for most of the time) is just a regular moment, but...

    To some version of you, this is ten, twenty, thirty years ago. What would that version think of what you're doing right now? What would they change? There will come a time when you'd give up everything to get this time back. Maybe this is "before the accident" for you, or "before the diagnosis" or "before [x] passed away." You never know.

    • GPX files for Edinburgh cycle loops

      Here are some routes that I cycle fairly regularly in Edinburgh. I cycle them predominantly on my single speed. There are occasional sections where I would prefer something with wider tyres, but nothing that requires a proper mountain bike. Most of the tracks start around Holyrood Park, then head out of the city in different directions.
