Volkswagen Cheated Us and Created Cars We Didn't Ask For
A company that kills our planet and resorts to greenwashing
ABOUT a year ago Volkswagen was laying off about 2,500 software engineers. Apparently, cheating with proprietary software takes a lot of staff, screwing clients is business as usual, and making cars that customers may actually want is out of the question.
I've sporadically been a car owner and have been driving since the 1990s, but in recent decades I see no point buying a car because they're all difficult to repair/maintain, they're overpriced for all the toys they're loaded with (you cannot opt out), and drivers are generally more busy with their "smartphone" or "car apps" than with the steering wheel. This means that even the most prudent driver can get hit by another car and insurance policies go up and up and up, even for relatively good drivers (I never had my car even scratched).
In a lot of ways, the automobile industry seals its own fate and after cheating (to pollute the planet) Volkswagen deserves no business anyway.
'Smartphones on wheels' is a good description because, just like "smartphones", they don't last very long and they diminish in value very fast. That too is very bad for the planet/environment. People need to buy cars a lot more often, resulting in more manufacturing, mining, emissions etc. █
