Death Notes: 2024-11-11
We've had company for the weekend, my in-laws coming in Friday afternoon as I was finishing work. They often come here for long weekends, or we go there, depending on whose turn it is, and if they have other things they want to do in the city. It's about a three hour drive.
It's low key because all of us are low key. A house full of homebodies. We typically play games, and we've been playing lots of games this weekend, cards and board games being our usual time-passing activity when there isn't a hockey or football game my father-in-law wants to watch.

it's a Bootleg XMas
the project is simple, bootleg something and send it to someone. gift someone that album or movie they've been talking about but have never pulled the trigger on. create your own artwork for it, your own packaging, make it unique and send it out. even if it's as simple as tying a bow on a USB stick.

starting to miss the summer
that thought always hits the hardest when daylight savings ends and it’s essentially night time at the end of a 9a-5p shift.

Monday
Wow, managed to sleep until 7:11am after hitting the sack around 10:00pm. Fantastic. Not that it helped me feel much better, because at this age "better" is apparently a thing of the past.

calling it
I was sitting back there, minding my own business. ~tadpole and ~dryac and ~inquiry were going on about this and that and making my head hurt. There used to be this voice that would tell me to leave it alone and mind my own business. Actually, it was the voice of my 3rd grade teacher Miss Chancey. My dad had a vocabulary that she didn't approve of, and he taught it to me without trying or knowing or caring. Sometimes it would come out in class when other students would shoot off what I called bullshit. Miss Chancey didn't like the ruler, so she whipped with her eyes and made me miss recess. She never tried to convince me that I was wrong because she agreed with me, but she did convince me to shut up and leave it alone. She really was quite a woman, the kind you don't appreciate nearly enough, but that you can't stop loving as long as you live.
[...]
Seriously, it's bullshit. Trump won the election, the US of A swings yet again through wild gyrations that represent nothing because the people in power stay in power and always will. Who cares? Remember when the reds took everything over with big promises and then didn't keep any of those promises? Remember when the blues did the same? Remember when Obama got the peace prize for some thing he was going to do in the future but hadn't done yet? Quiet down and wait, you'll see. Politicians will give you what they want, not what you want. And politicians are always on the same team no matter the act they put on. Just watch the cycles repeat and prove themselves.

Rememberance [sic]
As ever, remembering Arthur Jeavons, Ali and the crew from HMS GLAMORGAN who sailed to the Falklands and didn't all come back.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Closed Systems versus Closed Practices
When it comes to "open systems" versus "closed systems" of spiritualities or esoteric traditions: consider that a tradition may not be closed as a whole, and many aspects of it may be open to all to participate in. However, some practices within it may not be open, but be closed—whether or not it's based on cultural or ethnic concerns. For instance, Christianity is an open religion, but the priesthood is not open to all; you can't just up and declare yourself a priest, nor can just anyone perform priestly responsibilities. This goes even for those whose family and cultures have been Christian for 2000 years.

Verify You Are Human To Continue
It's November, nearly at it's midpoint even. and I have done... nothing!
My personal projects have kinda stagnated and I haven't been pursuing opportunities. This is, as ever, my fault. I've talked before about being kinder to myself, and sometimes that means making no progress in anything to make sure you're staying afloat. I'm fine by the way, I've just been taking it so easy recently I haven't done anything. I'll probably restart things slowly in the new year.
The problem with not doing things is that you end up doing things like overthinking those checkboxes that check if you're a robot. Of course I'm not a robot, but I think it's sometimes hard to continue to see myself as human. As a person.
