Microsoft Front Groups Against the FSF, Home of GPL, GNU, and Free Software
It has become a lot simpler to see who's screwing with Free software and who funds them to do this. OSI, Linux Foundation (LF), and FSFE all have Microsoft as a top sponsor [1, 2]; they also antagonise the roots and the core of GNU/Linux - an important subject that Techrights (TR) and almost no other site talks about
FSFE and OSI engaged in coordination against the FSF. It predates them taking bribes from Microsoft to attack Microsoft's critics. About a year ago the FSFE and SFC progressed from attacking RMS (GNU's founder) to attacking Eben Moglen (GPL). They hardly even hide their motivations and they no longer hide their lobbying for Microsoft. Not so well anyway...
Similarly, the people who attack not only myself but also my family have let the mask slip. Their payslips came from Microsoft. They're Microsofters. They've attempted to silence this site (in vain).
An associate of ours says that "TR helps keep the pressure on Microsoft and its proxies. The FSFE is illegally abusing the FSF trademark (if there is a trademark) at least misusing the name is disingenuous."
Notice how they gang up against RMS and others. They also try very hard to defund the FSF. That's their true goal and it's nothing to do with RMS.
"The LF should be named something else since it is less than 2% about Linux, at it has been very helpful that the < 2% Linux budget is mentioned repeatedly," the associate said.
Free software has always been under attack, but in recent years these attacks intensified. The only silver lining here is that the growing intensity also made it more visible who's funding these attacks. Much of the money (not all of it) comes from the criminals at Redmond. █
