Extemporeality 5
Back at the house. I couldn't sit anymore. I spent the next [null] minutes pacing between the kitchen and the dining room, where Constable is stationed, peering intently into the eyepiece. He collected water, as well as a sample of bladderwort.i said I was pacing, but it was really more of a drugged shamble. One foot in front of the other. I stood at the counter of the kitchen, looking fifteen feet ahead to the wall in the dining room. Nothing exactly looks real. I feel like I'm a paper cutout of myself, dimensionless. I'm moving to the wall and as I do, the countertop fades into an unreachable past, ancient memories of youth. I feel like I'm never going to reach the wall. Constable is providing a near-continual stream of commentary on his findings.

grado headphones
another brand of headphones i love is grado. my silver sr325 are my daily driver when it comes to open-back headphones. since the early '90s, grado has essentially kept to the same house sound, as well as general aesthetic.

Horror has a low skill floor
Over the past few years, there has been a number of fairly popular "IPs" – a collection of creative works that together form a marketable whole – that have finally escaped the grasp of copyright and entered the public domain. That they have taken so long to get to this point is worrisome and not ideal, but it is not the point of this small bit of writing which I have delayed writing for more than a year; what I would like to discuss is what is being done with this newfound freedom after it has finally been granted to us normal people.
As it turns out, these last few IPs have all more or less met the same first encounter. There's no name for this phenomenon, so I'm describing it in plain language: make horror from it. The first thing to do with this new material is to turn it dark and broody and "frighten" (not literally, but that abstract ineffable sense) others.

150 Day Streak in Duolingo
GĂ©nial! I have a 150 day French learning streak on Duolingo!
I'm going to Roubaix, France for a week in February next year. I will attend a one week framebuilding course arranged by LaFraise Cycles.

Why Stay in the Occult?
Honestly, for me? Because it's fun. I mean, yes, it is fulfilling and gives me direction and encouragement to keep pursuing the higher goals in my life, and I find the methods of esotericism and the occult (in all its many and varied ways, from religious contemplation to nitty-gritty in-the-dirt-and-blood magic) to keep me empowered enough to pursue my life's work, whatever it might be or look like in the end. That's the prim and proper and polite answer, at least—and such an answer, as sensible as it might seem, is like saying that animals have sex to procreate and further their species. Sure, that might be the biological cause, but that's not the individual reason. The reason animals (including humans) have sex is because it feels good.
Likewise, I do magic, religion, spirituality, and esoteric/occult stuff because it feels good to research, to write about, to talk about, to imagine about, and most importantly, to do. And, like, why do anything if it doesn't feel good? This is basically Epicurus' own OG hedonism, not merely seeking pleasure blindly, but with sense and reason in a way that satisfies without penalty.

Hey ~bartender! Did ya forget to unlock the door?
You'll have to excuse me, I broke in through the bathroom window a couple nights ago so I could get some free Maker's, and I kinda noticed I've been here all alone the last few days.

Karen
"Um, excuse me, we don't do that here," she says as she walks up in her pink windbreaker and her medium-sized dog on a leash. I look up at her curiously. She is a middle-aged white woman...let's call her Karen.
"It's against the law to smoke anywhere in the park."
We aren't even in the park. We are outside the park on a trail.
"Thank you," I state noncommitally.

ICBMs
Just a moment after i argued with someone in usenet that nobody would be so stupid to use ICBMs with an conventional warhead in a conflict i read that the russian military did exactly that... what.the.fuck... And looking into reddit (using Gopherreddit for sanity reasons) you see tons of edgy teenagers (or people stuck in the mindset of those) writing about how empty a threat this is, how much small-dick- energy (sic!) this transports and that we should now nuke moskow... has the whole fucking world lost its fucking mind?
Well... seems like i should climb to the attic and see if my old black biker gear still fits, its better to be prepared if we are heading into mad max territory.

writing from the CLI
So I've locked myself out of my desktop environment because I thought I'd be all fancy-pants and give the Alpine distro a go with Xfce. Clearly it's beyond my capabilities.
On a plus side I've been forced to learn a few things like using the w3m TUI web browser and this here smolpub.sh CLI script that allows me to post from the terminal.
As soon as I get access to a Windows machine* I'll be loading a USB with Ubuntu again because I found that distro the most user friendly. I might also load another couple with Debian and Fedora out of curiosity.
