  • 20 years of mental illness

    20 years ago (autumn of 2004) I experienced the full onset of schizoaffective disorder. In retrospect, I would say the prodromal phase began around the spring of 2004, because that's when things started to feel different, and when I started having ideations of a delusional quality.

    In the autumn of 2004, I had a panic attack** after work one night, and I believe this marked the onset of my condition, because I instantly became more acutely paranoid and socially withdrawn. I'd go entire days at school avoiding everyone I didn't have to interact with. I didn't socialize for fun, because I was paranoid and highly suspicious of almost everyone except close family members. I thought there was some huge conspiracy, and my parents, siblings, and other family members weren't in on it, and that this was by design ofthe conspirators. The conspirators I believed were people at school and work. I didn't have any concept of exactly what the conspiracy was about; I just keenly felt that there as /something/ going on, and that there was some hidden line of communication between school and work.

  • Getting started to write firewall rules

    This blog post is about designing firewall rules, not focusing on a specific operating system.

    The idea came after I made a mistake on my test network where I exposed LAN services to the Internet after setting up a VPN with a static IPv4 on it due to too simplistic firewall rules. While discussing this topic on Mastodon, some mentioned they never know where to start when writing firewall rules.

    the .2 release of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS came out today with all the generative Apple Intelligence stuff.

    I now have a new app on all my Apple devices called either “Playground” or “Image Playground” depending on whether the machine is a real computer or not.

    I generated some illustrations of sci-fi sunsets. The LLM can’t really tell that planet rings like Saturn’s aren’t like the disc-shaped body of a UFO.

      The official setup guide is great - however, as a bit of a noob still, it took me a bit of trial and error to get it working alongside the existing gemini capsule on my machine, so I figured I'd write up a quick guide for anyone else that wants to do something similar. This should work for any gemini server that allows you to choose the port it listens on. I'm currently using gmCapsule.
