Push Back and Become More Vocal for LLM Abuse and Misuse to Stop
Last week: Why is UK Press Gazette Jingoistic About Plagiarists and LLM Slop Disguised as Journalism?
IT SEEMS APPARENT THAT SOME self-described "bloggers" or "Staff Journalists" will carry on filling the Web with slop and/or "meeting quotas" by cheating with "cleverly-plagiarised" so-called "content". On top of that there's clickfraud and press releases made to look like reporting.
Well, we're contented to see that some of the culprits we've been calling out either stop doing it or very seldom do it. They basically made the decision to clean up their act, having been caught and called out. Chatbots aren't journalism; there's risk they'll just drown out the signal and then make extinct the real thing.
We hope that more people out there (sites too) will call out the people who saturate particular topics on the Web with machine-generated junk, often generated by a loss leader of Microsoft (perhaps the business model is just plain misinformation - or worse - disinformation). This concern of mine is shared/corroborated/testified/expressed with other site editors, who see the Web being swallowed by lies, spam, slop and even violence.
For those of us who spent decades of our lives putting much hard work into original articles with high accuracy and quality (and not many people did this) what's happening to the Web is very worrying. It's a threat to human knowledge. Oligarchy never wanted the general population to possess knowledge or have access to knowledge. █
