The Free Software Foundation (FSF) Turns 40 This Year, Now It Shows Possible Logos for the Special Event That Celebrates Sharing
FSF's options in a nutshell (see "FSF associate members to decide the logo for the FSF's fortieth anniversary"):
"Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the FSF Anniversary Logo Contest," the FSF wrote some hours ago. "It was an absolute pleasure to see the creative designs that engaged community members came up with for the fortieth anniversary of the Free Software Foundation (FSF). Below are the fabulous submissions that we received. FSF associate members are now invited to vote for their favorite logo. On January 22, 2025, we will announce the winning design, which will then be used as the logo for the fortieth anniversary of the FSF. The winning design will be displayed on the FSF homepage, printed on all of the celebration materials, and possibly even stamped on some merchandise."
Some of those are very good. I myself fancy "F designed by JL", but I may be biased because we love birds and feed birds all day long.
Which one do you fancy? Come tell us in IRC.
The FSF has had a good December. The FSF folks now need less than 55,000 US dollars to reach the goal (as of minutes ago it was $54,800 left).
Consider what Dr. Miriam Bastian wrote in libreplanet-discuss this past Friday on behalf of the FSF:
Dear all,
Thanks to free software supporters like yourself, we collected more than $329,000 USD since the beginning of our year-end drive on November 12. This means that not much is missing before we reach our goal of $400,000 USD. Can you help us collect the final $71,000 USD by January 17?
Read about what we’ve done with support from the free software community in the past month alone: https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/help-us-in-this-last-stretch-of-our-fundraiser
We know not everyone is in a position to, but if you can, can you support our efforts by making a donation maybe matching the average contribution of $46.22 USD?
With gratitude,
Miriam

Having given a considerable financial share to Software Freedom this year and last year, we'd like to invite others to do the same.
There are many ways to support Software Freedom. One can code, one can work on documentation, and one can become an FSF member or donor. One can even put an end to a deeply depressed maniac riding Microsoft's coattails trying to seed as much destruction as possible inside the FSF, just like Drew DeVault, a collector of kiddie sexy cartoons. There have always been forces trying to destroy the FSF and when they get loud and foul-mouthed it typically just means they've lost the argument, so they resort to name-calling and chronic harassment. █
