The Constitution or Else
USA-centric content follows. And, yes, I'm frustrated by this horseshit.
[...]
Again, you can only choose one. If you believe the former, you think the system enshrined in the Constitution for choosing the President is completely redundant to your mere opinion.
There are a lot of Americans who choose the second quote. They are more patriotic than anyone who chooses the former, and definitely more patriotic than anyone who tries to say they choose both.
And, while clearly this short essay targets the Right, it applies equally to the Left.

Not in Love with Cosmic DE So Far...
Ooof. I'm trying out Cosmic DE on Fedora atm, and it is not the best:
* The scroll speed is completely wonky (too slow in cosmic's apps, but if I increase the speed, too fast in all other apps like firefox)
* The colored bordering around the windows looks infantile, and is too damn big by default. Like, they're obviously trying to mimic what Windows 11 has, but Windows 11 did it better because its colored borders are smaller *and shaded differently.*

Every once in awhile I discover a unix tool that is so amazing that I really just can't believe I lived without it.
Today, I'm talking pigz: https://zlib.net/pigz/
pigz stands for parallel implementation of gzip and you can gzip files utilizing multiple cores on your server.

this year so far (in tarot)
hey, long time no see. i've been keeping tarot things to the forum and most personal things in the journal. some tidbits here and there on mastodon, but mostly i just forget to post everywhere... but i think i'm drawn to here again for now.
[...]
got my first deck of the year - the claude burdel 1751 from yves renaud. surprised myself, because i was only actively considering the goddess of love tarot recently. but maybe it was just time, i've had my eye on it for years and years.
i am very impressed with the quality of the cards, both the images and the physical object itself, very satisfying to handle. i've been continuing the jean-michel david book. or rather, i restarted it, following along with (most) of the exercises with the burdel. it's slow going but i expect it will get a bit more enjoyable once i catch up to my previous spot in the book and start learning things again!

Gemlog: On The Internet Of The '20s
It should be no surprise to anybody reading this that the internet is not what it was even five years ago. Enshittification runs rampant, corporations and governments alike reap as much personal data as they can, and AI slop has apparently started spilling over to public libraries.
It could be worse: we could also be on fire.
However, I have not largely been affected by the horrors of the modern internet. In this blog post, I will outline how I use my computers, and how we can try to create a better internet.
