IBM's Chronic Neglect Won't Save Anything and It Might Even Get IBM Sued
According to OBS Studio, Fedora (Red Hat, IBM) does such a shoddy job with 'universal' Flatpaks that it gives a bad name to OBS Studio. That impacts not only Fedora users; anyone who uses Flatpaks (e.g. GNOME users, increasingly KDE too) is affected. It's so bad that OBS Studio is willing to take legal action. We've often heard developers complaining about Canonical's packaging (for Ubuntu), but never heard of threats to take legal action/s over it. There are already videos about this, e.g. [1, 2]. Some vloggers use OBS Studio (on GNU/Linux) to make their videos; I too use OBS Studio.
The problem is likely a lack of manpower, not deliberate shoddiness.
As a reminder, over a year ago IBM commanded that some key Fedora contribution team ("staff") simply stops compiling things for Fedora/Red Hat (it wasn't so hard or expensive) because IBM does not care about Free software or Fedora. IBM does not give an F.
Of course IBM's manic rush to adopt Wayland contributes to this problem. Having to cater for X and Wayland is a bit like the "Rust dilemma" in Linux. There's an overlap between the Wayland and Rust pushers and it should be noted that Linus Torvalds reserves backlash for people who really deserve it. █
