  • Random Tangents

    I had the opportunity to do a verbal dump of many little work related things that have been floating around in my head yesterday. The person on the receiving end may have pointed out a connection or two, but a lot of it was just being able to verbalize one thing after another and go off on tangents for probably twenty minutes. It was definitely one of those, I have had my Ritalin and several coffees, but not enough to eat type of afternoons.

    The tangents where I think, the most interesting part. Say a thing, the brain flicks you a tangent and verbalize that tangent straight away. Someone else in the room forces me to hold on to that original thread and bring the tangent back to that, now having made a connection. Do that half a dozen times and end up with a network of interactions forming a picture in my head. Well, sort of a picture. Not a picture picture. Aphantasia n'all. A summary is probably a better description.

    The metal flooring the technicians were huddled on shuddered and groaned, internal reaction system straining to compensate for the demands of low orbit. Across from them a, supposedly, thrice reinforced window bay looked out over a dusty planet. The pair made a nominal effort to keep their voices hushed. The skeletal size of the crew ensured no one else would wander these rundown halls.

    • Automatically Downloading Gemini Files with Emacs and Elpher (publ. 2025-02-17)

      My go-to tool for automatically downloading files over Gemini protocol has been the gmni command line client. I've very glad to gmni exists, but it bothered me that I didn't have a way to do using just Elisp code. Naturally, I wondered if Elpher made available an API for this. The short answer to that is that there is no convenient Elpher function dedicated just to that purpose, but enough API tools are available to put together your own function

    • Gopher on Period-Appropriate Hardware

      I like reading the 'about' pages on gopher holes, and finding interesting tidbits. The downlinkomega gopher site [0] runs on a Windows 95 486 box, perfectly appropriate for a gopher server. As expected, the response is quite speedy, despite the limited hardware.
