IBM Layoffs in Europe Already Happening or Underway (UK and Spain). They Try Not to Call These "Layoffs".
Days ago: Springtime Layoffs at IBM (2025) and Statement From IBM European Works Council
"UK CIO redundancies" is a thread posted only an hours ago, saying: "My manager called and she said role is being made redundant. Standard 6 months salary severance voluntary package offered. Nothing this company does surprises me anymore... Good luck to everyone out there."
Given the recent publication (above), this is highly plausible. "CIO" in particular was repeatedly mentioned lately, as was Consulting. In another very active thread discussing "European IBMers," some hours ago Spain was brought up. They try not to call it layoffs - as that seems like the 'trendy' thing to do (so far this year).
Hours ago someone said, "regarding consulting, 'At the meeting, IBM senior management explained that it also aims at flattening the company’s organisational structure and delayering and deconstructing hierarchical and approval levels in IBM Technology and IBM Consulting to speed up decisions and actions. The reduction at IBM Consulting counts for approximately 25% of the European reduction, the remaining number is aimed at modest optimizations in IBM Technology. Consequently, the IBM EWC expects especially managers and leaders in band 9 and up in IBM Consulting to be in scope of this restructuring.'"
But the interesting comment came shortly after that: "In Madrid Center IBM is looking for 12 'volunteers' to accept the package and leave the AR Collection teams" (they try to hide layoffs this way; that's commonly done in GAFAM these days).
"Volunteers now, is it ??" the next one said. "How about starting with IBM leaders in the US instead - Alvind and the Pipmunks ? You'll save a ton on money on their supersized salaries and benefits packages."
The final comment said: "Why wasn't the organizational flattening, delayering and hierarchical deconstruction of the consulting organization undertaken when Alvind became IBM CEO and Chairman years ago ? It would have saved the company a lot of money and enriched the shareholders, no ? Sounds like someone at the top was sleeping at the wheel as usual - India style."
Expect forced relocation, PIP, RTO etc. to be misused by companies like IBM to hide the true scale of the "human resources" cut. █
