Fresh IBM Layoffs Reported in Europe and North America, Jobs Allegedly Moved to South Asia (Low Salaries)
As usual, IBM does not talk about this (except well in advance and very vaguely), so the media cannot talk about this either (except as gossip or rumour)
There's some "gossip" today in a couple of new threads. Following prior layoffs in Bratislava (Slovakia), which happened last year, there's this rumour of what's coming next:
The reply (minutes old) says "280 in Slovakia and 200 of them are in Q2C", so assuming the poster knows or has heard something, then execution might be imminent. There's also this separate thread:
That seems consistent with other written accounts of "old" staff that we shared here a week ago. Based in the US, they're let go with very little in terms of notice or severance.
Suffice to say, Red Hat is "IBM" now, so this might as well be Red Hat layoffs. There's hardly a way to distinguish after the gradual bluewashing.
On the other hand, IBM seems to be recruiting kernel people. This was published days ago:
The post in the blog:
One possibility is that IBM is hurting after some Red Hat staff "got the message" and left (brain drain). This is how the new post ends.
It looks like they aim for diversity hires, i.e. "low-paid" staff (not slaves but not far from that).
There is also the element of age. As people put it today: "Age discrimination and outsourcing is real at IBM and across industries" (another said: "Because the highly paid older workers get replaced by low cost younger ones in low cost areas like India etc…pennies on a dollar").
There are loads of negative comments in those threads (and others), but some seem too racist to quote here. █
Update: Some comments on this topic focus on the lady using Apple.
