2025 Rumours of IBM Layoffs in Marketing Likely True, Online Powwow Drops More Clues
Days ago: Rumours of IBM Layoffs Again, This Time Marketing
THE media is not functioning well (in the above, we already mentioned how IBM layoffs in "marketing" didn't get a single media mention, even when loads of people were affected). We therefore must rely on inside voices, even if many are nameless and faceless (for their own protection).
Almost every week lately there have been threads like these (9 hours ago):
11 hours ago people discussed where the riskier locations are:
It is not racist but factual to point out many IBM jobs (or roles) move to India. Sometimes Indian individuals who are highly skilled and/or strategically 'important' get 'imported' with visa/work permit to work hard. The "work hard" part alludes to number of hours for the most part; they'd struggle to say "no" because declining overworking propositions - even if that's illegal - can cost them the visa/work permit, i.e. a giant lost opportunity (merely complaining about the illegality would likely lead to separation from the employer, leading to the same result - a very unfavourable outcome). This situation isn't limited to IBM. But IBM is a very large adopter of US visas for IT workers and therefore someone brought up "Kochi".
Why is Red Hat a target? There are overlaps, e.g. JBoss. So IBM might get rid of many people or 'consolidate' with Bluewashing. Red Hat layoffs would be presented to the media - or in the media, if any covers that at all - as IBM layoffs.
This new thread (less than a day old) suggests something is going on at "marketing":
IBM layoffs? Well, they always happen, it's just a question of where and how many.
The effect on staff is bad; it's demoralising, which further exacerbates the quality crisis:
This active thread is only a few hours old. The above mentions unionisation.
How about the IBM European Works Council? Last month it wrote: The IBM EWC was informed at the meeting that IBM aims at offering voluntary packages as much as possible to ensure that employees in scope of this Resource Action can leave the company as ambassadors. The membership requests IBM senior management to inform and instruct country management accordingly. The IBM EWC understands that local implementations are guided by local law and practice, however, at European level one consistent and uniform approach for all European countries in scope of this RA should be discussed, outlined and agreed to ensure that IBM employees all over the continent are treated fairly and equally, according to the same rules and principles."
Expect over 10,000 layoffs this year (at IBM alone). They do this slowly to flout/dodge disclosure requirements. Many get pushed to retire, one way or another. █
