'Simple Articles' in MyGemini Just One of Many New 'Sites' in Geminispace
Geminispace has grown fast lately; it's turning 6 next month
Last year we mentioned the birth of MyGemini [1, 2], shared hosting for Gemini capsules. There have since then been more than a handful additions of sub-capsules, including Simple Articles. The main page lists 8 sub-capsules in total, but this one is the latest and it has been active for a couple of weeks. "Simple Articles sources stories from well established sites," it said last month, "but in good faith by linking directly to the source."
Sadly the certificate has been expired for several days, but they will probably fix that soon and in Gemini the users can typically override warnings about it (it's there, it's just the date that's the "issue"; sometimes it's the clock, as absurd as that might be in the World Wide Web). That depends on the Gemini client.
Geminispace is still growing. As shown above, the number of active capsules known to Lupa grew to 3024. Only about two weeks ago it was around (or almost) 3000, so that's a big jump as measured in net gain.
In 2025 I still check local weather in Gemini, I read a lot of material in it, and I've not yet seen any LLM slop in it (well, not that I noticed or caught anything). Gemini Protocol seems like a "safe space" for reasonable people, at least for now. After 6 years corporations haven't ruined it, they just "hijacked" the word Gemini and it really shows. Microsoft "had a go at it" as well.
Gemini Protocol is important not just for its content/people however; it's the technology and the topology. An associate rightly notes that Geminispace takes us a step closer towards re-decentralisation. There's no "Google", there's no DRM, and so on and so forth. █
