Outsourcing GNU/Linux to Microsoft GitHub Promoted by Microsoft LLM Slop and Army Officers

posted by Roy Schestowitz on May 07, 2025

Having just mentioned Rust issues, and having also covered the matter in relation to Ubuntu yesterday, consider this Microsoft LLM slop from the Serial Slopper* in BetaNoise:

Ubuntu Linux swapping classic sudo for Rust-powered sudo-rs

No, of course it is not a real article. It was more likely generated by a bot controlled by the same company that controls GitHub and thus Rust. Microsoft?

That being said, sudo-rs isn’t trying to replicate every obscure corner of the original. Some niche features might be left behind, particularly if they’re seen as outdated or rarely used. The goal here isn’t to recreate the past -- it’s to move Linux infrastructure forward.

The main culprit wrote about "Adopting sudo-rs By Default in Ubuntu 25.10", trying to rationalise it as follows:

Following on from Carefully But Purposefully Oxidising Ubuntu, Ubuntu will be the first major Linux distribution to adopt sudo-rs as the default implementation of sudo, in partnership with the Trifecta Tech Foundation

The change will be effective from the release of Ubuntu 25.10. You can see the Trifecta Tech Foundation’s announcement here.

He did the same thing to GNU (core utilities). Should we be concerned that such high-level decisions at Canonical are made by a young person with relatively little software experience (he got his "BSc Computer Science" in 2013) and British Army background, including the units that seek to undermine security and spy on everyone?

Something doesn't seem right.

* Speaking of slop, pymnts.com is also becoming a slopfarm, it runs slop that alludes to things which happened months ago. They call this "hallucinations".
