The Enshittification of Royal Mail (Post Office/Postal Services) Continues
Last year I had a very negative experience with postal services, not just ours but also the Dutch equivalent, as covered in: 1) Non-Tech Enshittification: Post Office Perils and the Czech is in the Mail and 2) The Post Offices Have Turned Into Trash. They Swallow Packages and Only Spit Them Out If You Get Lucky.
Last month I had a similarly terrible experience with international post (almost a month now for a greeting card) and days ago I wanted to send 4 sheets of paper and it turned out that First Class cost the same price as international post (for a similar size), so I suspect overcharging. They call 4 pieces of papers "LARGE". That particular place is repeatedly trying to upsell - giving you services that you did not ask for and cost a lot more. It's one of those many family-owned shops that began to exist after they had shut the main Post Office in Town. It's hard to ignore the pattern of immigrants running those shops and pulling tricks to make more money - it gets to the point where you completely lose trust/faith in these small franchises and by extension in the once-revered brand of postal service, which valued truth and honesty, except against its own staff, which it falsely blamed.
Well, tomorrow I will survey some local "branches" (private stores) to see if this is normal and why it's already taking nearly a month for a greeting card to get delivered. How hard can it be to just ship a simple little envelope?
Enshittification is a thing, not only in the digital realm. █
