Slopwatch: BetaNews is Now a Slopfarm (Like Linuxsecurity) and Google News is Overwhelmed by Slopfarms

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jun 18, 2025

The Web is bad. It seems to be getting out of hand. BetaNews seems to be almost 100 percent slop, i.e. it is a slopfarm.

Consider a short while ago. Camila Nogueira (if that's a real person all) is only ever producing LLM slop and the latest is no exception, so BetaNews is now just another slopfarm, we think:

Google to Kill Instant Apps. Wait, They Existed?

LLM slop, like every other 'article' since all staff (real people) got fired:

After quietly existing for years, Android Instant Apps are officially heading to the Google graveyard. The feature will be shut down in December 2025, and if you're wondering what Instant Apps even are… well, you're not alone.

Time will tell if this is the "new normal".

Brittany Day is also at it as usual, being the Serial Slopper of Linuxsecurity (it is basically a rogue domain):

Understanding Schleswig-Holstein's Bold Move to Open Source

Secure RHEL Clones Chart Diverging Paths

Fake 'articles'.

Then there's this computer-generated FUD:

CISA Warns of Linux Kernel Improper Ownership Management Vulnerability Exploited in Attacks

Also in the sister slopfarm:

CISA Alerts to Active Exploits of Linux Kernel Improper Ownership Management Vulnerability

Notice that not only the text but also all the images are slop.

Same here today:

Qilin Ransomware Emerges as a Major Threat Targeting Windows, Linux, and ESXi Systems

And the sister slopfarm:

Qilin Emerges as a New Dominant Ransomware Attacking Windows, Linux, and ESXi Systems

Google News is absolutely flooded today, mostly by those two slopfarms, a couple of rogue domains that spew out bad publicity for Linux in the form of LLM slop:

New Chaos RAT Variants Targeting Windows and Linux Systems to Steal Sensitive Data

Critical Linux Privilege Escalation Vulnerabilities Let Attackers Gain Full Root Access

Critical Privilege Escalation Flaws Grant Full Root Access on Multiple Linux Distros

So this is the Web basically. Google News with its automated curation for 'quality' is a joke.
