"Told You So": Another Very Large Wave of Microsoft Layoffs Now Confirmed in Mainstream Media
As the "original" (or first) leaker put it 6 hours ago (others did a day later): "Original Poster here. Now that there is an “official” leak to all major media outlets almost an entire week later I hope people take this warning serious now. Take care of yourself, build your skills, refresh your resume and most importantly never get complacent working at Microsoft. Microsoft Leadership has failed all of you that will be affected. They have taken one of the best tech companies on the planet and created a toxic environment nobody should be ok with. No empathy, and no care for the employees who built this company for them even while they failed us and the employees paid the price not them. For those that can, build your leave plan and bring your talent somewhere you are recognized and rewarded. In the end if you are let go, remember it was their failures as leaders not yours."
Almost a day ago someone started this thread about the aftershock of the Microsoft layoffs that were downplayed (false numbers) in the media. "So 305 out tens of thousands? Odd…" said a comment. "Thoughts?"
But this is mostly a distraction from what happened hours later and is now discussed here. A publisher with a paywall said: "Microsoft is planning to cut thousands of jobs in the coming months, primarily in its sales organization, as the company aims to consolidate sales roles to reduce the number of salespeople customers interact with, according to two people familiar with the plans. The company is still determining the exact number of roles that will be cut and is aiming to finalize it by next month..."
Bloomberg also has a paywall, but Reuters (no paywall but ad blocker-blockers) said: "Microsoft is planning to cut thousands of jobs, particularly in sales, as the tech giant streamlines its workforce amid increased investments in artificial intelligence, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The latest layoffs follow Microsoft's previous round of job cuts in May, which affected about 6,000 employees. [...] The tech giant has ramped up its investments in AI, aiming to solidify its leadership as companies across industries accelerate the integration of AI into their products and services to maintain a competitive edge."
So we were right to believe the rumours, based on the credibility of prior such rumours. █
