Mass Tourism
It's been a while since I posted. Because I did not have much to say, but also because I was travelling. My last trip to Norway, which is by FAR my favorite country got me pondering.
We drive a small campervan the size of a VW California but a different brand. We pretty much ignore campings but always try to stay low profile or stay where we know it's allowed. As a tool for finding locations we use Park4Night, which is a community based app where everyone can add and review new places. This has been great for us to find new places, but in Norway we really noticed the darker side of this.
We noticed it right on the ferry from Denmark. There were a WOOPING LOT of campervans queuing up to board. Much more than our previous trip to Norway 10 years ealier (we camped in a tent then). When we came of the ferry we had preselected a location to sleep because it was late. Just a petrol station offering services to Truck drivers, but also campervans. The parking lot was filled up completely, even out of season on a weekday.

Hair Love
At the end of April my hair was looking very crisp and frizzled around the edges. We were putting the boys on a screen fast for the month of May, so I decided at the same time I would do a no-heat styling month for my hair, to give it a break. I did that, even though it meant bundling my hair back into a frizzy ponytail every day and I wasn't a fan of that.
I ended up doing a few other things to try to help my hair as well. I started taking collagen supplements. I asked Christopher to pick me up some collagen at Costco. He brought me collagen tablets, which I thought seemed nice and easy. I wondered why people always seem to take it as a drink powder. Then I found out. The dose was six big tablets per day! Still, my hair WAS looking pretty bad after the long winter and all the heat styling, so I decided to go for it anyway. I took them every day during May, and most of this month too, except when we were away from home house sitting and camping.
Of course, collagen is supposed to have skin and nails benefits as well. Silas wanted to know why I was taking the collagen supplements and I tried to explain that women lose collagen as they age, so this was supposed to help me look younger. Then, as he watched me down the six tablets one at a time, he asked, "So Mom, if you took that entire bottle of collagen, would you look like a baby?" I imagined female celebrities on the cover of Us Weekly with the faces of babies, and it was a humorous thought. Thankfully, that doesn't seem to be a concern.

June girls
One called for a couple hours 2 weeks ago. Another one, I asked her on a date. And a last one, I saw at the store she invited me to her place. Oh and yet another one, who was 20 years older but who was really cool too.
Seems like there is some movement in this department. I am still unsure what I want. But it feels like there is a momentum toward something to happens.

raincoat
I don't bother wearing a raincoat let the rain soak me absorb every droplet let the heat escape drench the spark starting inside let it die become one with the puddles the endless streams carrying the remains of hope once lost, found lost again

Setting up telnetd on FreeBSD
It is that time of the year again.
We all get itchy, and can't wait for the new edition of the Old Computer Challenge to start.
This is reflected in the kind of messages on the IRC channel. People start talking about the wonderful hardware they might use for the challenge.

Fuck Google Gemini
Normally I wouldn't use curses in my post titles but this one really annoys me. Whenever I look something up relating to the gemini protocol, most of the results are google gemini. Even if I specify that I'm searching about the protocol the results are still mostly google gemini. I have never used it, I never plan to use it, and yet it is the majority of the results for anything gemini related. I understand gemini isn't all that unique of a name and there were probably several things called that even before the gemini protocol but couldn't google have picked a name that wasn't already something else? Besides that, if it was something useful maybe I'd probably be okay with it, but no, it has to be yet another AI chat program. How many of those are going to come out? Not every company needs their own AI LLM chat. I'd even argue that no company needs them. LLMs are not useful under almost any circumstance. They're like trying to hit a bee with a shotgun. The results are scattered and you barely get anything useful without them hallucinating all the time. Sorry that I've ranted about AI two posts in a row but this is getting annoying. Anyways, that's all for now.
