Study Updates
My apologies to any interested subscribers to this gemfeed: I haven't had enough spare time, for many months, to work on a post for this gemlog. With my other gemlog, I can write up quick posts using a few minutes of my lunchbreak. But writing posts for this gemlog requires quality time in the evening or the morning hours, with access to my Hebrew study books.
But I think it would be worth mentioning what I have been studying privately since my last post. For several months, I was continuing with readings and meditation in the book of Isaiah, and I had made it up to Isaiah 56. A month or two ago, I was given a book called "Messianic Christology" by Dr. Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum, a messianic Jew and a founder of Ariel ministries. Since then I have been slowly working through that. It is one of the most excellent study books I have ever read. The book lists and explains every prophetic passage in the Hebrew scriptures that deals directly with the first coming of Messiah, i.e., those prophecies that were fulfilled in the New Testament. At the beginning of the chapter for each passage, the Hebrew text is placed alongside an English translation (usually the NASB) so that I do not even have to pull out my Hebrew Bible.

Dangerous driving š„
I got a recall letter from the manufacturer of my car: the airbag might fire sharp things at me! I enjoyed the irony that, in a minor accident, a safety device could go off and kill me.
There's no charge for the fix, which is mildly surprising as the car is nowhere near new. So the other day I took it to be fixed. On the way, a parked delivery lorry was blocking my side of the road on a blind bend. I had to go onto the wrong side of the road without being able to see very far ahead at all. I enjoyed the double irony that I could be killed not only by a safety device, but while on the way to get the device replaced.

Setting up ftpd on FreeBSD
In preparation for the Old Computer Challenge I installed telnetd in a FreeBSD 14 jail [1]. This, as an alternative for ssh.
Of course, we not only use ssh to log into other systems, but also to transfer files.
I could use my Javascript-free filedropper [2] for that, however, when multiple files are to be transported, ftp works finer, and on the command line too.

Online Small Web Magazine
in issue 9th I announced that the anniversary 10th issue would consist exclusively of articles by subscribers
the third author took on the article, at the moment there are already two ready, and they are really nifty. I really hope that the issue will be released earlier, it all depends on how quickly I collect good interesting articles from subscribers.
