Microsoft Already Shaved Off Costs Anywhere It Could. It Was Not Enough.
"Temps", "contractors", people on visas and workers made to work overtime for no extra pay (e.g. 60+ hours a week for the salary of 40)...
Microsoft has already done it all. It also bought many other companies, mostly companies that couldn't make a dime but had a userbase.
What now?
Office and Windows aren't "selling" (licences) like they used to.

Shaving salaries off won't work forever. That business strategy has its limits. Eventually you must make a product that actually brings in money, not just piles of debt. █
