Microsoft XBox Layoffs: Almost 2,000 Layoffs Became "Over 2,000"? (Over 20% of the Staff)
In this age of slopfarms it's not too hard to stumble upon false, distorted, and misleading claims. This new article correctly cites some real media, but the headline does not match the body of the article.
"About 20%+ of XBox Staff" is to be laid off, we said last week. Is that a low(er) bound? We might never know because Microsoft habitually lies about the figure and it already spreads lies about this week's impending layoffs.
"Reports say that the Xbox division has about 10,000 employees," it says. "If the layoffs happen, they will affect 10–20% of the total workforce, which is a massive drop with far-reaching effects." If the headline says "over 2,000" (that's what it says), then it means over 20% of staff will be let go, not counting staff that leaves voluntarily.
Guesswork isn't good enough, but it is safe to assume and to predict Microsoft will lie. Consider revisiting: Unless a Third of All Microsoft Layoffs Worldwide Are in Redmond (Washington) Alone, Microsoft Has Just Lied to Everyone Via Jordan Novet in CNBC (i.e. the Usual Any Time There's Mass Layoffs and Novet Weighs in With False Numbers)
We need to pre-bunk the lies (i.e. debunk the lies which will get told soon). █
