In 2025 Everything is "AI". Remember Blockchains?
Right now (overnight) in IRC we're sort of joking about how everything with some "logic" in it gets presented to us as "AI". It has gotten so ridiculous. Just about every company in every area claims that its products and services are "AI". I am sometimes flabbergasted at how the media helps perpetuate such falsehoods. Such media is complicit in deceit. Some of it gets paid to do this, right? We have evidence of the payments.
Yesterday I saw an article about "Safe Superintelligence CEO Daniel Gross". Yes, they made a company called that! It speaks of "new Hey Hi (AI) lab" (link omitted). The same Microsoft-sponsored site, on the very same day, published "UK-based AI-driven parcel delivery startup Hived raises $42M" (yup! AI-driven parcel delivery!). It has gotten rather tiring seeing all this nonsense. I typically just skip articles completely if they mention "AI". The original Machine Learning people got drowned out in the noise. "AI"... well, it means anything now.
Years ago they told us that there was an "IoT revolution" or a "fourth industrial revolution", among other gimmicky nonsense. Set aside metaverse, blockchain, and other such nonsense. I've already forgotten some of the buzzwords and catchphrases they had the media repeat back then.
Don't participate in the hype. Reject the overuse of misuse of buzzwords. Talk about what companies and things (services, products, software) actually do, not the labels they use. █
