Microsoft Will Continue Resorting to Crimes in Order to Keep GNU/Linux Usage Down
Last August: Good Reason to Delete Windows, Not Dual-Boot, and Call Out the Microsofters Who Worked to Impose 'Secure' Boot, Undermining Antitrust Complaints (when/if you serve Microsoft, crimes are "OK")
Throughout the month we saw lots of articles (maybe a couple dozen) about how GNU/Linux had managed to exceed 5% market share in the US, based on statCounter. Some said it had exceeded 6%, citing US government data.
Regardless, looking at statCounter right now (almost end of July), it is fast approaching 5.5%:
Many sites correctly argued this might be attributable to "the end of [Vista] 10"; But Microsoft has a "time bomb payload" via UEFI: see Linux and Secure Boot certificate expiration
It's very revealing that 'secure' boot pushers said nothing to refute this or defend this. Some Microsoft staff bought LWN subscriptions to 'troll' the comments. It is a real problem and we'll revisit it later this week. █
