Video: The Rise of GNU/Linux and Free Software as Seen by RMS in 2004
The Digital Tipping Point (DTP) collection is still online at the Internet Archive. It correctly predicted a number of things. It was recorded about two decades ago and back then Microsoft Windows was very dominant because phones were 'dumb' (the term "dumb" means, as per common sense, that they did what they were actually supposed to do) and it was hard to get anything other than a "PC" (Windows) at computer shops.
DTP's founder argued that when Windows goes below 85% "market share", it'll lose its grip in the monopoly sense.
Someone has told us, "remember that while 50% is far less than 85%, we see that 12% is even smaller. Around 85% was the market share where Microsoft would stop being able to bring in monopoly rents, which were apparently their main source of income through many decades; c.f. The Digital Tipping Point material" (the RMS interviews covered a lot, including Microsoft). Here's an interesting old catalogue.█
