What the Free Software Foundation Started Four Decades Ago is Becoming Mainstream
"Four decades; Four freedoms; For all users"
This year we see growing acceptance and widespread recognition that GNU/Linux is widely used (yes, GNU also, not Android) and even celebrities can use it, not only hardcore programmers or sysadmins in a rich country. If these figures are true, the "global south" is also jumping to GNU/Linux in droves.
At the end of last year the founder of GNU/Linux (Richard M Stallman (RMS)) and his FSF colleagues ran a campaign to raise funds. It was very successful, though now they suffer from DDoS attacks. Andy told me that they plan to do a Cyber Show (C|S) episode about it, maybe soon after this new one.
That the FSF must somehow cope with DDoS attacks (no matter the rationale; nowadays it's buzzwords) is maybe a sign of its maturity. You can become a member or buy a shirt to support the FSF's efforts. █
