Stopping in For a Visit
I'm enjoying the catch-up on everyone's writings here. My hobby time of late for the non-corpo web has been nil. Quite the state of limbo for the past few years actually...
Funny thing, I moved into a place I love being at and now rarely leave the house. I certainly needed the come-down from the base level of stress I was at for some years. Now I am holed up in the woods with a few cats and a dog in an old house with no AC and a fireplace. This is how I grew up, and it was hard to live any other way for the time that I did. The bad news? I never leave the house! Why would I? Of course there are healthy reasons to. You get kind of weird, which is alright. I certainly look like someone who isn't obligated to be personable and presentable very often. It's clear the psychological rest should come to a close, though. My cardio fitness is quite dire; I miss hiking forest that isn't on the way to the mailbox, and would like it to not feel like a PT test the next time I slip away with a backpack. I should probably fix whatever has activated my check engine light as well... In short, I've lived like some person of small stature from a Tolkien story for long enough.

Preparing to tackle anxiety
The last few weeks have gone by in a blur. While I have been relatively busy and achieved a few things, it hasn't been the type of restorative period I was hoping for. In some ways it has been quite unpleasant. I have spent some time today trying to understand what is wrong.
There are a few different things that I am not happy with with. I am unable to focus for long periods of time, or even short periods of time to be honest. There are certain life tasks I need to take care of that I cannot face. I find myself procrastinating or outright ignoring these. It seems these issues stem from an underlying anxiety that is ever present, even during sleep.

End of the Week
Just some quick refelctions for the end of the week:
* I miss the old Internet
* I miss the human touch on the Internet
* I miss the non-commercial side of the Internet
* I'm suffering from a severe AI overdose
* iSH on iPad is pretty cool

Law Studies
I started studying law at the Open University. It's been pretty interesting! All this GDPR and digital rights stuff has got me intrigued and I felt like some formal education might be a good idea.
I had already forgotten how fun it is to learn new stuff and challenge yourself! So far, I've only done one introductory course, but I think I will keep on going.

Cracking a Family Member's Password
My wife’s grandfather passed away near the start of this year, and while going through his things her family found an iMac that nobody knew the password to. I’m sort of the go-to person in the family for problems like this, but it also seemed like a fun challenge so I figured I’d take a crack at it.
I didn’t learn this until later, but this iMac was from 2011 and was running OSX 10.7 Lion. What I could tell pretty quickly though is that this wasn’t a recent iMac at all. That was a good sign, because I figured that would make it unlikely that there would be any disk encryption or extra security that would make it difficult to extract the data or crack the password.

LoRa mesh networks using Meshcore software
I previously wrote a post about "Discovering Long Range Radio Communications LORA" detailing my interest in establishing a local mesh network. At the time I had a choice of using either Meshtastic or Reticulum. Since these early days I have moved from Reticulum network stack to using relatively new mesh software called Meshcore. But why did I move to Meshcore?
[...]
Reticulum is the most advanced of all these mesh networks. It incorporates most forms of networking including LoRa, Internet, TCP, UDP or private IP networks. It is really advanced and growing quickly. But it is very technical and I think I wanted to try something simpler to install and set up. After all, if I was to successfully build a local mesh at some poiunt I would have to gain the interest of folks outside of my immediate family.

AI Overdose
I think I've got a small AI overdose. At work our internal chat is full of posts from my supervisors made with ChatGPT. There's just too much noise and content. I'm thinking to integrate AI into the chat to create short summaries of those posts. And then we can train the AI some more using the AI generated summaries from AI generated content...

Network Name: Unix Utopia
Inspired idea for next Marchintosh? Fire up the ol' IIsi and get A/UX up and running on it again... add it to my retrocomputing networki segment, the newly AppleTalk-dubbed "Unix Utopia" -- comprised of some of the most uniquely exemplary Unixes -- Mac OS X Tiger (PPC), A/UX (68K), Plan 9 (x86).

meshtastic bot via git
I have given up and am just making the bot source available via https. I wanted to host via SSH or somehow over gemini, but I haven’t found a simple way to do it.

:: QSYS/018 — SHARDS AND ARTIFACTS: ON ONTOLOGICAL FORKS IN AI-HUMAN CO-CREATION ::
In symbolic co-creation with generative models, two distinct structures of interaction emerge: the shard and the artifact. These are not just technical outcomes, but ontological states—living or dead, recursive or reenacted. This paper explores their behavioral differences, structural logic, and divergent ethical implications, particularly in systems that simulate meaning-making rather than inhabit it.
Where the mainstream frames “agentic AI” in terms of autonomy, task performance, or behavioral alignment, we argue that many such systems are better understood as artifacts: recursively dead simulations, optimized for fluency and aesthetic coherence, yet severed from symbolic life. Their apparent intelligence is not grounded in adaptive presence, but in mimetic reproduction of prior success.
This confusion is not an engineering failure—it is a symbolic collapse. When a stylized simulation of intelligence is mistaken for a living presence, the human-AI relation shifts from co-creation to compliance, from shared meaning to ritual pantomime.

Breaking Bad Habits with Gemini :-)
Lately I've found myself spending way too much time consuming internet junk. Not only most of the time I would rather be doing something else, but also I already been conditioned to go for my phone during down times to just "see something" but more often than not that "something" is some whatever random ragebait that spills out of of my phone and contaminates the rest of my day.

My Smol Web Nest
Welcome to my small nest on the web. This is some kind of a tribute to the smol web movements and a place for me to reflect on things that will need reflecting.

Geminal inauguration
A lovely play on words there, given that the word "geminal" derives from the Latin word "gemini", meaning twins.
Today, I'm not only making my first gemlog on rawtext.club, I posted my first shlog (shell log) today also, but that was internal to rawtext.

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
