GitHub the Company Has, in Effect, Just Died (Time to Look for Alternatives)
To Microsoft, what's left of GitHub after dismantling/folding it is some "training set" (people's code, without permission to "train" i.e. misuse under the guise of "GenAI" plagiarism)
The closer we look at it [1 , 2], the more it looks like during a summer holiday (many workers away) and amid mass layoffs at Microsoft the company GitHub is sort of being mothballed or "Skyped". Forget about GitHub; it'll just be some "hey hi" (AI) "product", sold to shareholders (who foolishly bear the losses) using buzzwords. A reader said we had made a "good point about the Microsoft mole inside Axios -- Microsoft is trying to control the narrative and minimize the discussion of the collapse".
Citing this Microsoft-sponsored spin site, the reader asserted that it seems clear other "key executives" have been ousted. "Hiding the losses by shuffling around budget line items," he said.
It'll be easier to hide the losses now. Just call them "investment in hey hi" (AI).
It's basically the end of GitHub, except as a domain/site.
Skype.com is still online, but Skype is not.
The reader told us, "remember to encourage self-hosting if possible and other version control sites if necessary".
