The Only Thing Worse Than Misinformation is Misinformation Sold to Everyone as "Intelligence"
3 weeks ago: Google as a 'Bullshit Generator' Disguised as Intelligence
Today:
Misplaced trust is worse than none at all. For example, better not to trust some entity (e.g. Web site) with privacy and free speech than to believe in false promises and act according to this misguided belief. Many sites covered the scandal of some so-called 'VPN' taking screenshots from users' PCs and transmitting them to the VPN provider - basically no worse than what Microsoft does in Windows, but we're meant to believe it's OK when "trusted" Microsoft does this and it's done to "train AI".
Similarly, when Google says it does AI mode one has to be very careful. The English may seem convincing, the grammar is almost always correct, but there is plenty of false information in there. Google wants people to blindly assume (or believe, like in faith) that there is some super-sophisticated algorithm (or "superintelligence") studying facts, assessing accuracy. In reality it is a copypasta parrot piecing together tokens (or sequences of 1-5 words) from various sites with poor vetting and weak, outright sloppy synthesis.
Of course over time more people will realise the media was paid to sell us all a dud, a lie. By that stage, however, the Web will already be saturated with way too much garbage. Cui bono? █
