Should Currys PCWorld Start Voiding Warranties of Users of Vista 11?
Windows 11 - not GNU/Linux - is a risk to one's hardware
Earlier this month I found out that even in 2025 Currys PCWorld still treats GNU/Linux like something dangerous that might be damaging your hardware [1, 2] (the main thing it damages is Microsoft's bottom line).
It seems timely that the operating system Currys PCWorld forces you to have on virtually every laptop (except Chromebooks) turns out to be the real danger. See pro-Microsoft sites admitting "Windows 11 SSD failures, performance degradation caused by updates" and "Microsoft is investigating Windows 11 KB5063878 SSD data corruption/failure issue" (also from a pro-Microsoft site).
This isn't some "toxic" Linux site making claims. These are Microsofters admitting it's a real problem. A reader of ours moreover links to a slopfarm that Google News keeps promoting ("Microsoft Confirms August 2025 Update Causes Severe Lag in Windows 11 24H2, Windows 10 Versions").
So Microsoft admits this.
"You may be interested in mentioning these issues in an upcoming links page," the reader said, quoting Microsofters: "Recently released Windows 11 24H2 updates are reportedly causing data corruption and failure issues for some SSD and HDD models on up-to-date systems.
"This issue was first reported on Friday by a Japanese PC building enthusiast who saw drives with Phison NAND controllers disappearing from the OS during heavy write operations (like writing large files or many files at once) after installing the KB5063878 security update and the KB5062660 preview update.
"While some of the impacted drives were restored after restarting the system, the rest remained inaccessible even after a reboot."
So you update your PC for "security" and then lose data, even break your machine.
Any comment on this, Currys PCWorld? If a person's laptop has a mechanical issue, should this person replace GNU/Linux with Vista 11 for the repair shop? Only to damage the SSD?
Currys PCWorld is just protecting Microsoft, that's all it does. █
