There Are Also Expectations of IBM Layoffs Very Soon With "Narrative Control."
Having just mentioned the expectations, based by potent rumours (from alleged leakers), of Microsoft layoffs in a few weeks perhaps it's worth taking note of similar predictions about IBM. A thread which started 5 hours ago culminated 2 hours ago when somebody wrote: "Earnings call is October 22, depending on the numbers, the layoffs will come before or after. There will be a narrative control. They are thinking about how to time layoffs around their earnings calls, and they may occur just before the earnings report to present a unified financial picture and demonstrate cost-saving measures to investors and making things appear more disciplined. But we are still a little bit less than two months away, so the numbers are still being baked. If the numbers are bad, then it's bad on top of bad. So they will time layoffs based on when they can make the least amount of damage. Narrative control. But I'm just speculating."
The term which also applies to Microsoft is "narrative control."
They try to paint layoffs as "efficiency" or something to do with "hey hi". Some of the jobs are to be replaced by staff based in India or imported from India, but most positions remain unfilled. There's also a push for people to resign; those people won't count as layoffs and won't qualify for severance payments.
An earlier comment said: "Those selected [for layoff] were identified in July. I’ve heard it will occur either September or October in US consulting."
There have been almost 50 other comments in the past 24 hours; spread across half a dozen threads. Some of them mention Red Hat and how IBM failed to achieve anything substantial with that acquisition. █
