    Now, my complaint was that there are servers out there, which will happily accept messages with basically random sender certificates.

    That is, you might generate host cert (CA) with subjectAltName google.com, and create user cert cafefee7@google.com, and happily send misfin messages. obviously noone will be able to answer, as I doubt google will become misfin provider.
